Research the Most Current Information you Can Find

Research current information from a variety of sources. To use the most current information on a topic, use databases that cover multiple subject area. For specialized databases and sources select the appropriate Subject Guide.

Databases at Rio Hondo College Library:

  • ProQuest is an extensive periodicals and newspapers database covering social issues, business, health, science, economics, current events and more. Over 2200 full-text journal titles plus the full text of the Los Angeles Times and New York Times.

  • CQ Researcher This is the online version of the print (paper)
    publication CQ Researcher. The paper version can be found in the Library periodical reading room (H35.E35 1 SERIALS Periodicals,2nd Floor ).
     
  • Issues & Controversies @ FACTS.com has up-to-date, in-depth, and
    objective information on prominent and hotly debated issues. Chronologies, illustrations, maps, tables, sidebars, bibliographies, and contact information augment the balanced and accurate coverage of current and historical events.

     
  • Professional Collection is a custom selection of more than 300 full-text journals for educators that is updated daily and provides 24 hour access from school or home. The Professional Collection includes journals in the Arts and Humanities, Child and Adolescent Psychology and Development, Drug and Alcohol Abuse, Health/Nutrition/Fitness, Learning Disabilities, Literature, School Law, Science and Technology, Social Sciences, and Sports/Athletic Training.
     
  • PsycARTICLES is a premium collection of full-text articles from major scholarly journals in
    the discipline of psychology. Most of the 58 APA journals included in PsycARTICLES now go back to volume 1, issue 1. The earliest journal is Psychological Review, which was started in 1894. The database also contains journals that are no longer published.
     
  • Pro & Con from Congressional Digest Corp. is the online version of the independent monthly. It contains key legislative issues before Congress, and includes objective and single-topic coverage of major Supreme Court debates.
     
  • National Library for the Environment NLE is a single point of access to the world's
    environmental information, and provides objective and scientifically sound information on a wide range of environmental issues. The main feature of NLE is the full text of approximately 600 Congressional Research Service Reports dealing with environmental issues. It also includes various other useful sections such as the Population & Environment Linkages Service (Pop Environment) consists of Web sites on interesting environmental topics, and a direct link to the Virtual Library of Ecology, Biodiversity, and the Environment
     
  • ERIC The Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) is a federally-funded national information system for a broad range of education-related issues. It contains more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts from more than 980 educational and education-related journals.
     
  • Counting California contains government-produced statistical information about California. Counting California includes current and historical census data, almanac-style statistics, county business data, and a range of education, crime, election, and demographic information.
